The Glacier Boyz entered last week fresh off a tough Week 3 loss to the Beasts that went down to the wire, but with a solid draft and Franchise Tags– QB David Pindell, WR Andrew Jamiel, WR Kavontae Turpin, and SB Calen Campbell– the Iced Out Squad was ready to bounce back.
Pindell got off quick, scoring on a 4-play drive, capped with a TD catch by Jamiel.
The rest of the first half would be spent trading TDs but the Glacier Boyz ability to hit on the 1v1 conversions was the difference as they took a 30-20 lead. Looking to expand on that margin they – probably inadvertently – started a trend.
After scoring their 30th point and with just under a minute left, the offense decided it was time to try the onside play. Although it was successful, QB Deondre Francois’ next pass was picked off.
One play later, the Wild Aces were in the end zone, cutting into the Glacier Boyz lead 30-28.
Then the Wild Aces decided it was their turn for some trickery. In less than 30 seconds, the Glacier Boyz went from having a 10-point lead to trailing by six, 36-30.
The Wild Aces took the ball 1st after the break, and scored on back-to-back possessions thanks to converting another onside play.
Down 50-30 but finally having the ball back, Pindell and company went on a mission. The QB, Turpin, and Campbell all had big plays to help cut the Aces lead to 50-38.
After a successful onside play of their own, Turpin got himself in the end zone and once again cut into the lead.
Down by two, the Glacier Boyz tried another onside. This time it was picked off.
Down 10, Francois’ feet and arm got them back within four. But that would be as close as they would get. Pindell couldn’t convert the next onside play, and the Aces ran out the clock.
Even at a record of 1-3, the Glacier Boyz fans put together a good team. The owners saw it and franchise tagged some of the best players in the FCF.
After starting off the season pass-heavy, the fans found their balance, and the record doesn’t accurately show how well the team played or how well the fans ran the team.
If a few plays had gone the other way, they could’ve been looking at 3-1instead of where they are.
Regardless, the Glacier Boyz are poised to make a run at the Championship as the playoffs start this Saturday.
