Fans Are Making the Call On New League Rules

Buckle up fans, because we’re kicking it into high-gear these next two weeks before Season v1.0 starts! We’re || this close to wrapping up the official league rules, but need you to weight in on a few more before we can do that. Let’s dive right in:

Initial Possession

How should we determine who makes the call on possession at the start of each game? Do we go a more traditional route, or do we go with something a little more entertaining?

  • Classic Coin Flip. Fans will vote on which player from that week’s roster will make the call on the field.
  • Rock-Paper-Scissors. Fans will vote on which player from that week’s roster will go head-to-head with the other team.

Overtime Format

Should we end up in a situation where the game is all tied up and we have to head into OT, which format do you want to run with?

  • 1v1 – WRs vs. DBs. Fans of each team will choose 3 WRs and 3 DBs to represent their team. This will be a red zone challenge. Each team’s QB & WRs will get a chance at 1v1. If teams are tied up after each WR has had a try, repeat Initial Possession determination (see previous vote) in order to determine which team gets to choose WR vs. DB for tiebreaker.
  • College Style – 7v7. Each team gets at least 1 possession from the 10-yard line.
  • One Play FTW – 7v7 from the 5-yard line. Choice of Offense or Defense is determined by the same method as Initial Possession. The fans of the team that win will vote on whether they want to have their Offense or Defense on the field.

Defensive Pass Interference (DPI) Penalty

Nothing gets a fan’s blood boiling quite like some flagrant Defensive Pass Interference, am I right? So when a player does commit DPI, what should their penalty be?

  • 10-yard penalty + Automatic First Down
  • Ball placed at the spot of the foul + Automatic First Down

Penalty Accumulation – Individual Player (#1)

We’re not saying any of our athletes are planning on accumulation two penalties in a half, but if they did, what should happen?

  • Nothing
  • The player can’t play for the rest of the half
  • The player can’t play for the rest of the game

Penalty Accumulation – Individual Player (#2)

Alright, a new penalty accumulation scenario for you. If an individual player accumulates three penalties in a single game, what should happen?

  • Nothing
  • The player can’t play for the rest of the game
  • The player can’t play for the rest of the game AND his team must play a man down for the rest of the series that the penalty happened
  • The player can’t play for the rest of the game AND he cannot play for the first half of the next game

Penalty Accumulation – Team

Let’s switch things up and look at penalties from a team perspective. If a team accumulates four or more penalties in a half, what should happen?

  • Nothing
  • The team must play a man down for the rest of the series where the penalty occurred, and for every series in that half that another penalty occurs.

FCF “Onside Kick”

There is no kicking in the FCF, making a traditional onside kick impossible. What should the FCF’s version of an onside kick be? If a team scores a touchdown and elects to try and retain possession of the ball:

  • They shall receive the ball on their own 10 yard line with a 4th and 10-yards to go. If they convert the 4th down they retain possession and continue on offense as normal. If they fail to convert, the other team takes over on downs at the spot of the ball.
  • They shall try a 2-pt conversion from the 10-yard line with full offensive and defensive units on the field for the attempt (7v7). If the attempt is successful, the team on offense receives the ball 1st and 10 at their own 10 and begins a new possession. If the attempt was not successful, the other team takes possession at midfield.

Comeback Rules

Dovetailing off the previous vote, when should a team be allowed to try an FCF “Onside Kick” to try and retain possession of the ball after they score?

  • Anytime
  • Only in the second half while trailing
  • Only in the last 10 minutes of the second half while trailing

These might be some tough calls to make, but we know the fans are up to the challenge to making the right ones! Power To The Fans!
